LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WVLT)--A Lenoir City businessman will be in court Wednesday to face sex charges. Police arrested Chris Wiggins after an online chat with an undercover cop, where Wiggins thought he was talking to teenage boy.
The report shows Wiggins was trying to meet up with a 17 year-old boy for sex. A father of two, his ex-wife tells Lauren Davis she's shocked and worried about how the news will affect her 4 and 6 year old children.
There's a billboard of business owner Chris Wiggins in Lenoir City, but his mugshot is the picture everyone is talking about. Wiggins faces two charges of sexual solicitation of a minor. Shannon Norton has worked near Wiggins for 2 years. Norton says, "It's kinda scary in a way. Just knowing you're that close to somebody and they're capable of that and you had no clue the whole time."
She says he's done a lot of roofing and siding work since the hail storm. Norton says, "Normally you'd see 4 or 5 trucks out here, but today nothing. None of his employees. None of his trucks."
That's because he's in jail. The police report says Wiggins solicited a 17 year-old boy to come to his home or business for sex. The report also says Wiggins described his physical features to the undercover cop and asked if the boy was into guys.
Child advocacy professional Chris Longmire says even though 17 year-olds are almost adults, they are still vulnerable. Executive Director for Child Advocacy Center Chris Evans-Longmire says, "There's so much more that's going to take place with that child between 17 and 22. They're still easily manipulated. They're easily controlled."
Police found marijuana and guns at Wiggin's home so he's also facing weapons and drug charges. Wiggins is a convicted felon stemming from an aggravated burglary and burglary case back in 1996 and 1997. Wiggins also has a pending harassment charge against him from June of this year.
