PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) --People in Pigeon Forge voted yes to serving liquor by the drink in restaurants for a second time.

Voters on Thursday approved the sale of liquor 952 to 798. This is the 4th time in four years that they have voted on the issue.

Forging Ahead, the group that pushed to get the vote in the first place says the money will help schools and tourism in the area. They also hope the issue is finally over.

"The voters have said two times now, November and March, we want liquor by the drink. It's time we put it aside and move on and start the healing process," said Ken Maples with Forging Ahead.

The Concerned Citizens and Churches of Pigeon Forge say they plan to meet in the coming days to go over legal options moving forward. They plan to protest nearly 100 1% property voters who voted in the election.

"We're disappointed our city officials didn't take action to resolve the 1% problem," said Jess Davis with the Concerned Churches. "They could have resolved that issue but didn't."

The election commission says after checking, the 1% property voters were legally registered.

The election commission plans to certify the vote on March 21st at 4:30pm.
