Local 8 News gives back to the community

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- We gave our own Mark Packer the task of putting together two brand new bikes and Friday we delivered those bikes to two lucky kids in East Tennessee.

The Local 8 News "sled" made its first stop in Campbell County to deliver a brand new shiny bike to 5 year-old Melonie Paige Chambers.

She was delighted to have a bike of her own since she has been using a hand-me-down bike.

Melonie mom Shenna said "She is so excited. Look at her riding around I doubt we'll be able to get her off that bike."

But Melonie wasn't the only lucky kid to get a new bike; we dropped off the other bike to the Knox County Salvation Army.

Rob Link of the Salvation Army said "This bike is perfect for one of our 'forgotten angels'. It's going to be a great surprise."

It's donations of gifts and money that keep the Salvation Army's Angel Tree alive.

"All this wouldn't be possible without the efforts of the community. It really warms our hearts to see donations come in for the thousands of kids that deserve a happy Christmas." said Rob
