KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Saying that it is the most powerful collegiate marketing innovation in snack foods, Old Mill Kettle Corn President Mike Proctor announces the launch of seven kettle corns licensed by major universities just in time for the kick-off of the college football season, including University of Tennessee Big Orange Popcorn.
“We know there are millions of college football fans who are ready to support the launch of our products and gobble up the goodness of our kettle corn,” says Proctor. “Our unique licensing agreement enables us to offer team-branded kettle corn that is sweet, salty, deliciously irresistible and perfect for that tailgating party, or an anytime healthy snack.”
Old Mill Kettle Corn is a family-owned and operated business in the small town of Chickamauga, Ga., just outside Chattanooga, Tenn. Proctor began the business by making his recipe of kettle corn at his father-in-law’s home to sell at street festivals. Soon, retailers expressed their interest in the all-natural popcorn, and Old Mill Kettle Corn was born. Today, top supermarket retailers across the south offer Old Mill Kettle Corn to their customers because of the popcorn’s sweet and salty flavor.
The licensing agreement enables Old Mill Kettle Corn to market Big Orange Popcorn by the University of Tennessee, Tiger Paw Popcorn by Clemson University, Ramblin’ Wreck Popcorn by Georgia Tech, Gamecocks Popcorn by the University of South Carolina, , Bulldogs Popcorn by the University of Georgia, Gator Corn Popcorn by the University of Florida, , and Seminoles Popcorn by Florida State University.
The collegiate popcorn will be marketed to each college team’s fan base through advertising during team football radio broadcasts, via team social media sites, at stadium concession stands and at campus bookstores. “The power of college football is extraordinary in the South,” says Proctor. “For example, there are thousands of consumers who express their love and support UT just on Facebook. Thus, we believe that social media will be an important factor in sharing our new brands with college football fanatics everywhere.”
Old Mill is launching the team popcorns with a V.I.P. Experience Sweepstakes. Fans can visit their team’s popcorn website to enter to win tickets for two to a one-of-a-kind experience during one of their team’s home games in 2013. They can enter the sweepstakes by including numbers printed on each bag. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest.
