KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) A longtime emergency responder in Knoxville has passed away suddenly. Ronnie Patterson died last night from a heart attack. He was 54 years old.
He started his career in Monroe County EMS in 1979. He came to Knoxville in 1982 and worked for East Tennessee ambulance service before joining Knox County Ambulance Service. In 1985 he started with Rural Metro and moved up the ranks Operations Manager. In 1992, Patterson became Knox County EMS Coordinator for 10 years.
He worked several different private services since then and answered his final call with Medic One Medical Response.
He served on the Board of Directors for the Knoxville Rescue squad. He taught numerous of EMT/Paramedic classes at Roane State community college back in the 90's.
His co-workers who were passing out gifts with him on Christmas Eve for the empty stocking fund are shocked by his death.
He is survived by his wife Laura Lea Patterson. His daughters are Ronna Gregory Emmalee Grace Patterson and a son Nathan Patterson. He has three grandchildren Kyleigh, Wyatt, and Beau.
