KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Since 1986, Helen Ashe and Ellen Turner have been serving meals to those in need in Knoxville. Thursday they celebrated their 85th birthday.
The twin sisters operate what's affectionately called The Love Kitchen. "It's been a lot of hard work, but the blessings that we get each and every week and beautiful people out there that donate every month. A little lady that calls in, she's a homebound recipient, she calls in a prayer, the most beautiful prayer on the on the phone with us and that keeps Helen and me going," said Ellen.
A health issue for Helen in 2005 almost ended it all. "They call me the miracle child at church and I tell them, I say, I'll tell you what, the lord has some more work for me to do, he's keeping me for that reason," said Helen.
At 85 years old, they may be a little slower, but they're a little slower, but their hearts still pour out to those less fortunate.
