PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Wedding chapels all over Sevier County were busy on Wednesday, performing weddings one right after the other on the last major numerical date using the Gregorian or Christian calendar for almost another century.
At the Angel's View Wedding Chapel in Pigeon Forge, wedding planners there say they had 8 weddings scheduled, very different from a normal 4-5 on a weekday. Chapel managers say they were actually turning people away and many booked at the last minute.
"Oh yeah definitely, and we had quite a few people calling just yesterday to book these weddings actually, last minute," said Sara Hewett, with Angel's View Wedding Chapel. "Anytime it's consecutive numbers, we always have several weddings."
Wedding planners in Sevier County say they believe the county could perform up to 500 weddings on 12-12-12. The Sevier County Clerks office says they registered more than 60 marriage license on Wednesday, but said people can go to any clerks office in Tennessee to file their marriage.
