KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Police have arrested a man wanted for nearly beating a tow truck driver to death.
KPD charged Tycorrian Taylor with Aggravated Assault Thursday. They say Taylor attacked Ron Gandy while Gandy was trying to tow a car at Pleasant Trace Apartments over the weekend.
Police found Gandy unconscious in the complex's parking lot early Monday morning.
Officers say the car belonged to Taylor. He ran off after the attack.
Gandy remains in critical condition at UT Medical Center.
Family friends say that on Friday morning, facial reconstructive surgery will start.
Many are praying for him, but one local church is organizing a benefit to help the family in this tough time.
The benefit will start at 5:00 on Saturday at Blessed Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Claxton.
"When you see the need, there's no need to think about it, just get in and help," said Terry Morgan, the church's youth pastor.
Brendan Kline visited Ron Gandy, and his son Jordan, hours after he was found beaten at Pleasant Terrace Apartments.
"I've known him for a while, and I couldn't recognize him when I first saw him. It was just shocking to me that it happened to someone that I knew," said Kline.
He says Jordan hasn't left his dad's side.
"He was just shocked that it happened to him. It's his only family. He lost his mom when he was young, so it was just shocking to him," said Kline.
There's a fund set up for Ron Gandy at ORNL Credit Union. To donate, tell them you'd like to put it in his name, or in the name of Norman Schmitt/Ron Gandy.
