A 34-year-old man died earlier this week while at the Cumberland County Justice Center.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says Rustin Grayson was brought to the center after being arrested Crossville Police Department.
Jail staff say when officers arrived at intake, Grayson was unable to
get out of the patrol vehicle without assistance.
The Crossville Police Officer requested the jail nurse to check on Grayson who said he should be taken to Cumberland Medical Center for further evaluation.
He was taken to the hospital emergency room where he later died.
The case was turned over to Tennessee Bureau of Investigation upon the request of District Attorney’s Office.
The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing and further releases will be made as additional information becomes available. It is believed that abuse of drugs is a contributing factor.
