Man receives gunshot wound in back, sent to hospital

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- On Saturday morning at about 3:15, officers with the Knoxville Police Department responded to the area near Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. and Chestnut Street after hearing numerous gunshots.

Officers located a black male who had been shot one time in the back. He was unable to give any suspect description at the scene.

He was transported to UT Medical Center by Rural Metro.

The investigation is ongoing--anyone with information is asked to contact the Knoxville Police Department.
