Maryville fills spec building, adding 40 jobs

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A $3 million investment in Maryville promises to bring dozens of new jobs to the area, Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty announced on Wednesday. Hagerty was joined by officials from Microtherm, Inc. to announce the Belgian company has leased the Blount Partnership spec building.

“The decision to locate in Blount County was due to the quality of the spec building the community built, competitive labor rates and the central location to our customers and raw materials,” said Bill Gregg, Microtherm General Manager.

Microtherm produces the eponymous specialty insulation, designed to save energy, comntrol heat, and reduce greenhouse gases at petrochemical plants, molten metal processing and power generation systems. The facility will also distribute Promat fire prevention products.

“With the Partnership having a move-in ready building; it really helped seal the deal,” said Ed Mitchell, Blount County Mayor. “We have to make Blount County attractive to outside companies and having sites ready to move into or build make it easier to recruit. Microtherm saw the value in it and that’s part of what helped make this venture happen.”

The plant, located in Partnership Park South, is set to open this summer. It will employ around 40 people by the end of next year, the company added.
