MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The owner of the Pink Pig Pottery Studio in downtown Morristown said she saw great numbers Saturday while she was being 'mobbed'.
Melanie McKinney, the owner of the Pink Pig Pottery Studio, said she had customers from several different counties and cities who had never heard of her business before come in and check out her store.
"The day started a little slow because of the (UT) game, I think," McKinney said. "But the afternoon was great. We had some groups of 10 or 12 people coming in."
McKinney also used the Cash Mob as an opportunity to help others in her community. She asked anyone who came to support her, to bring in a coat to be donated for the homeless.
McKinney estimated that she had about 30 coats by the end of the day.
"It's something exciting. It's the talk of the town right now. Everywhere I go, everything I see, even on Facebook, everybody's sharing it, everybody's talking about it," McKinney said.
The stores are open, the owners are ready and now all they need is you and your wallet to pay a visit.
It's an idea that drew in crowds and money for local businesses in Knoxville now Downtown Morristown hopes it will do the same for them!
Jason Rich brought the idea from Knoxville to Morristown just two months ago and ever since it's been a big hit.
"At first people didn't understand what it was but once we had our first Cash Mob, people started to get the hang of it." said Jason
The first mob was at The Fret Music Store and dozens showed up. The next was at Jersey Girl's Diner where nearly a hundred people showed up and the diner's sales reached an all time high.
"The businesses say they've had repeat customers since the cash mobs and sales have really picked up." Jason said.
The next cash mob is Saturday, October 19th at the Pink Pig Pottery Studio; a place where you can pick your pottery, paint it and they'll glaze and bake it for you.
Melanie McKinney, the creator of The Pink Pig Pottery Studio said "It's a place you can come with your family, friends, children and paint to create memories. You don't have to be an artist either."
The pottery studio is a relatively new business that's already benefiting from the cash mob!
"It's been the talk of the town! It's been so exciting and it's really brought a new breath of life to the city of Morristown. I'm so excited to be a part of it." said Melanie
A way to bring new life to a city and local businesses, Jason said he's amazed at the popularity, "People are so happy to get involved with local businesses and explore Morristown. I'm just happy that I've helped give some publicity to Morristown."
Visit the Morristown Cash Mob on Saturday, October 19th at the Pink Pig Pottery Studio in downtown Morristown from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
