MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The U.S. Postal Service is investigating after a Monroe County man was arrested for mail theft.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Department arrested Josh Morgan January 22nd and charged him with theft.
According to detectives, the arrest came after one particular incident but he also admitted to stealing from others. He's suspected of stealing mail from more than 100 people in the area.
"It's basically no different than someone coming into your house," Michael Webb said. "You feel violated."
Webb and his wife realized something wasn't right when they never received packages they ordered during the holidays.
"I thought maybe Mike got the mail because there wasn't anything," said Tammy Webb who came home to an empty mailbox one evening after work.
But after talking to relatives and neighbors, they learned they weren't alone.
"There were numerous mailboxes open so we assumed that whoever was doing this had made a big impact and hit several people," Michael Webb said.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, there may be other victims who might have not realized their mail was stolen.
There will be a meeting at the Vonore Community Center at 6 p.m. Thursday January 31 to discuss the crimes.
The investigation is ongoing.
