KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two parts of Knox Co. will be sprayed for mosquitoes for the first time Thursday night after Health Dept. officials discovered the presence of West Nile. Six other regions are also set for a repeat spraying.

“To date, Knox County has had no confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in humans,” said Ronnie Nease, KCHD’s Environmental Health director. “By spraying to reduce the population of mosquitoes, we hope to reduce the risk of mosquito-to-human transmission"

The Health Dept. said it plans to post signs in the affected areas to alert residents of the spraying, which is scheduled to last from 9:00 p.m. to midnight. Follow up spraying will occur in two weeks in the two new areas being sprayed.
