Crimetracker: Mother arrested for neglecting children

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Gatlinburg Police say they've arrested a mother after they found her 3 children starving and not clean.

Gatlinburg Police say they were called to Ski Mountain Hotel for a medical situation with the Gatlinburg Fire Department. Police say they found a small child about 6 years old was sick with a high fever and was taken to LeConte Medical Center.

Police say the also found 2 other children, 7 and 13 that also appeared to be neglected by the mother of the children.

Melissa Mahan, 37, of Gatlinburg, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of Child Abuse, Child Neglect or Endangerment. Mahan was booked into the Sevier County Jail on a $10,000 bond. She's expected in court on May 31st.

The three children have been taken into protective custody.
