KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Amy Reyes can't bare the thought of what happened to her 5-year-old son inside her Cassell Ridge Apartment.
"My baby's eyes were in the back of his head, and he was gasping for air. He was unconscious," she said.
Reyes said her other children, ages 6 and 4, watched in horror as their brother Robert Reyes was thrown into a TV stand and slammed to the ground. His head was also slammed against a bath tub over and over again, according to police.
"They saw heir brother get murdered. They saw it all. What kind of monster does that?" she told Local 8 News.
Knoxville Police arrested Reyes' live-in boyfriend Tyrail Cooke in connection to the beating. According to police, he confessed to the crime.
Reyes said she can't imagine what would have lead Cooke to do what he did.
"I'm never going to see his smile again, I'm never get to hear ,"I love you mommy," she said. "I pray that when he goes to jail he gets the fullest extension of justice because that's just not right. There's something sick in his head for him to be able to hurt a little baby like this."
Reyes said she wasn't home at the time of the beating, and that she and Cooke had been dating six months. She also said he never gave her a reason not to trust him around her kids.
Temple Baptist Church is helping with funeral arrangements. Amy and her family will say their final goodbye to Robert on Sunday.
