MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Morristown man has been charged in the death of a 58 year-old woman found in Summittville Cave last month.
Jimmy Byron Jones, Jr., 51, was charged with first-degree murder following an joint investigation by the TBI and Coffee Co. Sheriff's Office. He was booked on $2 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
He was arrested Thursday night for the death of Connie Lou Godsey Brown. Her burnt body was discovered at the Summittville Cave between Summittville Road and Fire Tower Road in Coffee Co. An autopsy revealed she died from a gunshot wound to the chest, officers said.
Investigators were able to track Jones to the Cave where Brown was found thanks to a GPS tracking device he was wearing following a previous offense, according to TBI. They described Brown as a convicted sex offender who is currently on probation.
Authorities claim he's already admitted to killing Brown and that the pair did not know each other.
