Neighbors worried about backyard shooting ranges

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- If the house was fifty feet closer to the street it wouldn't be an issue.

But Oscar Lopez is scared and angry.

His neighbor came home to a bullet hole. A shot fired through her window, her wall and a door before landing in her hallway.

It likely came from a backyard shooting range, and because of that fact police can't do anything about the wayward shot.

If a shooting range is in County property and follows a short set of guidelines than its owner is essentially not liable for any criminal or civil charges.

The only thing that is illegal is shooting another person.

Its a law that has Oscar rethinking everything. "As of this week, I'm looking to move." He tells us.

While Oscar might move, the law likely won't. It was written in 2008.
