GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Firefighters in Gatlinburg are excited about their newest piece of apparatus that they say will improved safety and efficiency in the department.
Monday, the Gatlinburg Fire Department , added to the fleet a new 2012 Viper Quint, a multi-use firetruck that can handle multiple rescue and fire situations.
“Rosenbauer was very excited to place a new Quint in Gatlinburg, due to the ‘face time’ one of their vehicles will receive in a tourist town that sees more than 10 million visitors annually,” said Miller. “Many of those visitors to Gatlinburg choose to stop by one of our three stations to take a tour of the facility and to see the vehicles and equipment.”
The New apparatus serves the dual purpose of an engine and ladder truck and also has safety features that will keep the firefighters safe as well.
Chief Miller says ISO, the city's insurance rating company, identified the need for a second ladder truck in Gatlinburg.
"It's just going to be able to enhance our operations, because this is one vehicle that you can do fire suppression from you can do rescue from, you can work rescue and fire to hi-rise structures which we have here in Gatlinburg," said Chief Miller.
Right now the city is at an ISO rating of 3, Miller says this could help improve the rating and save property owners money on their fire insurance.
"This just further allows us to work every day towards even improving on that rating."
