PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Pigeon Forge City Commission has approved hiring 3 new firefighters for the city's fire department.
Mayor David Wear says the commission voted unanimously to fund the three new positions that will bring fire station number 2 up to full staff. 9 firefighters were already approved through a federal grant.
"We'll have 4 firefighters on an engine and make it NFPA 17/10 & 17/20 compliant, and we're real excited about that to be able to make the community safer," said Watson. "The ultimate number of staffing is four, and it makes them able to get more work done quickly and makes it safer."
Fire Chief Tony Watson says the grant will fund the positions for 2 years and the new staff members will bring the station to full staff.
