KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(WVLT)--UT's newest building, the Min Kao building, opened today with great fanfare.
It's a giant step forward for UT's Engineering program. The building is named after Min Kao, a former student.
You may have hear of Kao. He graduated from UT and founded the GPS company, Garmin.
He donated $12.5 millon and the state doubled his donation.
UT Chancellor Jimmy Cheek says we can't stand still when it comes to education, "What we've got to do is double our efforts keep moving up the ladder, that trajectory and get better and better each year."
The hope is that the new building will help attract world class professors and students and open up the possibility of new grants.
