CLAIBORNE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A single-engine plane crashed around 10:30 AM Sunday at the New Tazewell Municipal Airport, which is in the Lone Mountain community.
Officials told Local 8 News the plane was piloted by Gregory Vaughn Stone, of Jonesborough.
They say the plane never left the ground. They say Stone was taxiing when he probably caught a crosswind, causing the aircraft's propeller to go into the ground, which made it spin around and go over an embankment.
Officials say Stone was the only person on board, and he escaped with a minor injury to his leg, but he refused medical treatment.
The plane was a 2012 Rans Experimental Aircraft, owned by a Middlesboro man.
Investigators will send their information to the FAA for further review.
