KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Transfiguring Adoption is a program of a Knoxville-based nonprofit, Community Life Concepts.

Co-founder of the program, Margie Fink said, "Foster children are five times more likely than the general population to suffer from PTSD and two times more likely than veterans who have seen combat to have PTSD."

Margie and her husband, Darren who have four adopted children out of foster care discovered issues with their kids quickly, all behaviors she said can be caused by trauma, attachment issues, sexual abuse, malnutrition and PTSD.

They found that they were not alone and other foster parents face the same behaviors and concerns.

Transfiguring Adoption develops media resources to nurture growth in foster and adoptive families. They do this through discussion guides, extensive book lists for children and adults with reviews, blogs written by adoptive parents, adoptees, grandparents, and teachers, and providing services.

Transfiguring Adoption's Owl-iday Virtual 5K Challenge is for anyone looking to get fit and have fun, while raising money for a good cause.

Every registration helps to fund Transfiguring Adoption's First Foster Placement Survival Kit program. The program provides newly licensed foster parents with a package of tools that will assist them in beginning a successful and healing placement with their foster child.
