Nostalgic "Thacker Christmas Sign" comes down

CARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- After nearly thirty years of gracing alongside Interstate 75, near exit 134, the nostalgic "Thacker Christmas Inn" sign came down on Thursday.

The sign is being removed to make way for a new Holiday Inn Express & Suites. The company said its new sign will be more aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly.

According to Joe Valentino, the new hotel's general manager, the Thacker sign, was originally erected in 1974 to promote the old Inn and restaurant. He said the giant Christmas tree-shaped sign has become a landmark for travelers on I-75 through Tennessee.
