GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Ober Gatlinburg is welcoming the days of cold weather and inches of natural snow.
The ski resort says there's about 4 feet of snow on the ground in most places and in some areas there's 6 feet of snow on the ground. This is the first time in many years the resort has opened every single slope they have.
"It's great! I haven't fallen yet so I think I'm an exception. But it's really fun and all the people are really helpful," said Ananja Louw, Skier. "It's cold out here, but you have so many layers so just the wind flowing through your hair and hat and clothes it's really fun."
Ober Gatlinburg's record for skiing days is at 100 days. This year Winter Sports Director John Casaboom says they should keep skiing for much longer.
"We're skiing 2 trails we haven't skied in the last 2 seasons. Grizzly and Alpine Way. So it's absolutely fabulous to have the whole mountain open," said Casaboom. "For this coming season our 100th day will be March the 9th, I'm not only confident that we're going to get there. I believe seriously that we're gonna have a couple more weeks after that. So it'll be probably one of the best seasons on record for Ober Gatlinburg."
Casaboom says the resort had to change some operations for safety reasons because the snow piled up in areas they were not used to.
