Officials break ground on Oak Ridge plant expansion

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan joined Protomet CEO Jeff Bohanan on Friday to scoop the first shovelful of the company's new $6.25 million expansion to its Bethel Valley facility.Sherry Browder,

Chair of the Oak Ridge Economic Partnership, and David Wilson, Chair of the Industrial Development Board were on hand as well.

The new development will more than double the size of the plant to over 40,000 sq. feet. It's expected to bring around 30 jobs to the area as well.

The expansion is expected to be completed later this year, company officials said.

The city granted Protomet a 5 year development tax abatement in March to encourage the extension.
