A Local 8 Weather Alert has been issued for today. Because of the threat of rain, thunder and even hail, outdoor activities may be disrupted or inconvenienced. What's going on? An upper-level low will be moving across East Tennessee today, creating a more unstable atmosphere.
OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The gas line fire is now out after lightning struck the gas line during Monday's severe storms.
Anderson County Emergency Management Director Steve Payne said lightning struck an underground gas line causing the fire on Hoskins Gap Road.
The fire was coming from inside the ground.
The gas line was from an oil well so no houses were in any danger.
The flames were 8-10 feet high.
Payne says they shut down the gas pipeline, so the fire would go out.
We've got a crew on the scene and will have pictures tonight after the NCAA Championship Game on Volunteer TV.
