NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An Oliver Springs woman charged already facing TennCare fraud charges in Roane Co. now faces similar charges in Williamson Co., the Office of Inspector General announced. Melissa Adkins now faces two charges of "doctor shopping" in Williamson Co.

She was arrested while she was still in jail in Roane Co. in late July and, on August 8, the 28 year-old was indicted by the Williamson Co. Grand Jury.

“The unauthorized use and abuse of prescription drugs is a serious public health problem,” Inspector General Deborah Faulkner said. “The Office of Inspector General is committed to ensuring the TennCare program is not misused or defrauded.”

The charges allege Adkins used TennCare for clinical visits during which she did not tell her healthcare provider she had received similar drugs from another location.

The OIG said TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to two years per charge.
