KNOXVILLE, TN. He's an Olympic gold medalist, but Scott Hamilton is also known as a cancer survivor.
He battled testicular cancer and then a brain tumor (a benign pituitary tumor.)
Hamilton advises everyone to be smart when it comes to their health.
"Vigilance is everything. The best cure for cancer is early detection. Know what is going on with your body. Schedule those preventive tests, get your blood work done. Be checked, it really is the best way to
survive," says Hamilton.
He says he had a tumor the size of a grapefruit in his stomach and didn't know why, as he said it, "couldn't get rid of his gut!"
The pro skater is in town spreading the word about prevention while promoting an upcoming event at the Knoxville Coliseum on December 6, 2013 which he is hosting. Amy Grant will provide the music and several world champion figure skaters will take to the ice.
Scott won't be skating, but is excited to host the event.
He says we will be seeing a lot of him since he lives in Nashville and is throwing his support behind support behind the Provision Healthcare Foundation, which is affiliated with the brand new Provision Center for Proton Therapy.
It's in Dowell Springs on Middlebrook Pike and uses advanced radiation to treat cancer.
