MADISONVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- One man is dead and five others are injured after a head-on car wreck on U.S. Highway 411 in Madisonville late Friday night.
Amber Maddox, 28, of Madisonville, was driving at a high rate of speed going northbound in the southbound lane of Highway 411. She struck Jacob Ownby, 21, of Tellico Plains, head-on, killing him.
After being struck, Ownby's Toyota Camry spun off the right hand shoulder facing northbound, while Maddox's Nissan Altima spun off into the median facing southbound.
Two passengers from Ownby's car, including a 2-year-old child, were both injured. The child was properly restrained in a car seat, and everyone in Ownby's car had a seat belt on.
Maddox's passengers, including a 5-year-old child and an 8-year-old child, were injured. Neither were wearing seatbelts.
Maddox had been drinking that night.
The posted speed limit at that part of the highway is 55 miles per hour.
