Woman killed in accident in national park identified

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) -- National Park Rangers have identified a woman who was killed in a crash that involved a park service truck on Tuesday..

Officials at Great Smoky Mountains National Park say Tracy Anderson,34, of Morrice, Michigan died in the accident. 2 park service workers were hurt in the crash.

Rangers say the 2 vehicle wreck happened just after 2 p.m. on Newfound Gap Road just north of Collins Creek Picnic Area in North Carolina.

Rangers say an SUV heading southbound collided with a northbound National Park Service pickup truck. The driver in the SUV died on scene, 2 park workers were taken to the hospital where they were treated and released.

North Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the accident investigation at the request of the Park. According to Chief Ranger Clay Jordan, “Normally, we complete the investigation of motor vehicle collisions within the park, but because two of our NPS employees were involved in the accident, we have asked the NC Highway Patrol to lead this investigation.”
