KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Police are investigating a shooting that took place in East Knoxville early Saturday morning.
KPD says they responded to a call just before 1 a.m. in the 4300 block of Ivy Avenue.
Daniel Kuykendall says the shooting happened in his backyard.
He was watching video feed from his home security cameras, just about to go to bed, when he saw two dark shadows run around the corner of his house.
He was trying to figure out what was going on when he heard someone crying for help. That's when he saw a third guy, the one being chased by the two people he saw earlier.
"That one dude was kicking his feet up in the air and stuff, and the other dude was standing here [shooting him] like 'pow, pow, pow, pow,'" he says.
All of this happened only a few feet from his back door.
"We got an 11-year-old daughter in the house, we made her get in the bathtub because we didn't know if any guns were gonna shoot through the house," he explains.
Kuykendall fired his shotgun to try and scare them off.
"He never flinched or nothing, he just kept on that one dude that was down, just stayed on him," he says.
The victim managed to crawl a few yards, across the creek to a car parked in Kuykendall's driveway. That's where he was lying when first responders arrived on the scene.
"He was awful, he was all bloody, just terrible, terrible, terrible," Kuykendall says.
Police say the 19-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with an unknown number of gunshot wounds.
Kuykendall says he didn't recognize the victim or the attackers, but he says the violence in this area is getting out of hand.
"I hear gunshots all the time coming from right up the road there, it ain't nothing to hear a gunshot around here. It's just awful," he says.
Rural Metro confirms the victim was taken to UT Medical Center.
The victim has been identified as Brennan Nicholas of Knoxville.
Witnesses tell Local 8 News the attackers ran off before police arrived.
