Our interview with Newt Gingrich

Updated: Thu 9:44 AM, Aug 02, 2012

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- On the eve of Super Tuesday former Speaker of the House and current Republican hopeful, Newt Gingrich stopped in Knoxville.

The Speaker is starting to pick up support in the state after a late surge, in part from a good showing at the Tennessee Conservative Union's Reagan Dinner.

He's hoping a push for a new American energy plan will resonate with voters. And believes he can lower the price at the pump to $2.50 a gallon.

He was in 3 Tennessee cities on Monday and, after polling in a distant third late last week, is hoping the whistle stop tour will propel him.

Polls open Tuesday morning.
