Parents of a youth football league said they're getting ripped off. A scrimmage between parents of a youth football league and parks and rec hits a brick wall. On Wednesday, a public meeting was held, where parents were given the chance to confront organizers.
"We weren't shown any of the financial records, no bank statements and no receipts," said Breyauna Holloway.
"I don't see how any money is being embezzled. They don't have enough money to make ends meet," said Knoxville Parks and Rec Director, Joe Walsh.
An argument over money got so heated - the conversation came to a halt.
$75.00 - that's how much it costs parents for each player - every season. Parents tell Local 8 News, they have no idea where that money is going.
"I had to buy my son a helmet last year. I wasn't happy with what he was given," said concerned parent - Frank Smith.
"One parent told me - her child got ringworms due to the unsanitary equipment," said Breyauna Holloway.
"We don't know where the money is going. We don't know what's happening with the money," said Smith.
Dozens of parents tell Local 8 News they won't back down until they find out what's going on.
"I will remove my son from the baby roadrunners program and ask several parents to follow me as well," said Holloway.
Joe Walsh, Director, City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation, released the following statement:
"We were contacted within the last week about the situation, and have initiated conversations with affected parties. The Baby Roadrunners commission, like other football commissions, is led by volunteers and operated independently from the City and County. However, our primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of the children, so we will work to facilitate the resolution of these issues between the parents and commission."
