Michael Giovanni Cocchini
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Officials with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park confirmed on Thursday that remains discovered recently were those of Michael Giovanni Cocchini, who disappeared in the park in March.
Investigators said they will not be able to determine exactly what killed him, but added that evidence they found at the scene indicates he had planned on taking his own life. No foul play is suspected.
Park officials worked with the Sevier County Medical Examiner’s Office, Knoxville Regional Forensic Center, and the Knox County Sheriffs Forensic Unit to identify Cocchini using his dental records.
