Pastor, woman charged with plotting to kill wife

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A former Union City pastor and a woman who was part of his congregation are charged with plotting to kill his wife.

The Union City Daily Messenger reports that 54-year-old Edward Paul "Eddie" Mallonee and 40-year-old Shelley Shannon Moran of Franklin were indicted Monday in Obion County.

Both are charged with conspiring for more than two years to commit first-degree murder and attempt to commit first-degree murder by poisoning his wife, Cathy.

Union City Police Chief Perry Barfield told The Associated Press on Tuesday he could not comment on what type of poison was involved.

Mallonee did not immediately return a message left on his Facebook page by the AP. A phone message left at a listing for Moran wasn't immediately returned.
