UPDATE: Pedestrian hit in Knoxville

 Previous story: Police say a pedestrian was hit on Middlebrook at Clyde Street on Sunday around 8:00 PM.

 
Officers say a 17-year-old was driving an Oldsmobile when he didn't see the pedestrian until it was too late.
 
There are no signs of drinking or other impairments and no charges are pending. 
 
The pedestrian, a 55 year-old, was taken to U.T. Medical Center by Rural Metro. 
 
He was in surgery for head trauma and his condition is unknown.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Police say a homeless man was hit on Middlebrook at Clyde Street on Sunday around 8 p.m.

The man was identified this morning as 55-year-old Charles Hurst.

Police say witnesses told officers Hurst was drinking all day and was on his way to the store to buy more alcohol.

According to police reports, Hurst appears to have stepped out in front of the moving vehicle. The 17-year-old driver told police he didn't see the pedestrian until it was too late.

Hurst was taken to U.T. Medical Center by Rural Metro where he was moved into surgery to address head trauma.
