KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) - Knoxville Police think a fight in the middle of a street led to two people getting hit by a car in the Austin Homes community.

Police say gun shots were possibly fired at the car around the time they were struck.

Officers arrived at the intersection of West New Street and Bell Street around 2:30 Saturday morning after getting word of a crash.

When they got there, police found Theron and Jeannie Johnson had been hit by a car. Both were taken to UT Medical Center.

Officers found the car and its driver, Alice Barrett, in the Green Hills apartment complex. She was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Theron Johnson is in stable condition, no word on the two women.
