Crimetracker: Stock pleads guilty to Megan Maxwell murder, sentenced

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The man suspected of killing Megan Maxwell admitted to the Newport teen's murder in 2009. In a Cocke Co. courtroom Wednesday morning, Jeffrey Lee Stock pleaded guilty to murder as well as two lesser charges.

As part of the plea deal, he was sentenced to 18 years in prison on a reduced charge of Second Degree Murder. He was also given 4 and 6 year sentences on the lesser charges of arson and theft.

Stock's father will also be charged with misdemeanor accessory after the fact.

Maxwell went missing in April 2009 and was last seen leaving her father's home in Newport.

Deputies found her burned out car along Highway 25 the next day. Then in November 2010, a man walking his dog found her remains.

Stock was arrested in November 2011. His father is also charged with accessory after the fact.

Details of the plea deal have not been released.
