SWEETWATER, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An East Tennessee teen has died after accidentally shooting himself.

According to Sweetwater Police, Matthew Daniels, 15, accidently shot himself with a family's gun.

"He was an honor student. Just a great kid," said Sweetwater High School Principal David Watts.

Watts told Local 8 News Daniels was a freshman at the high school.

Students and staff along with Daniels' family will remember the teen at the school's gym on Sunday at 2 p.m.

"We want the students and adults to get together and just share things about Matt as part of a healing process for the community," Watts said.

A receiving of friends will be held Monday evening at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
