Police arrest burglar trapped in vent

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Knoxville police have arrested burglary suspect after they found him stuck in a laundry room vent at the Mountain Springs apartment complex.

Officers responded to a suspicious person call at 5004 Willoway Dr, Mountain Springs Apartment Complex around 2:30 Tuesday morning. Witnesses said that a young Hispanic male walked through the complex, knocking on doors. He may have also opened a window at one apartment.

Police say the suspect then went to the complex's laundry room. An Officer found the suspect removed a small vent cover from the wall. The suspect then attempted to gain access to a locked tool storage area by climbing on a washing machine and through the vent hole, but due to the size of the hole, he was trapped. The officer could only see the suspect's legs hanging from the wall, which was approximately 6 feet from the floor.

The officer held his pant legs and tried to free him, the suspect slipped out of his pants and the hole, falling into the storage area.

The suspect then emerged from the storage area door and fled on foot, but he was quickly apprehended by officers.

At this time, police have not positively identified the suspect. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries and transported to intake for burglary and other possible charges.
