UPDATE: Knoxville Police seek more information on Cumberland Ave. shooting

KNOXVILLE, TENN (WVLT)- Knoxville police say a walking patrol assigned to Cumberland Avenue heard gunshots coming from a parking lot behind 1937 Cumberland Ave. about 2:50 am Saturday. When they arrived at least one person fled on foot and another was detained by officers.

A Chevrolet Suburban was seen leaving the scene at a high rate of speed and was stopped a short distance away on White Ave. at James Agee St. Officers found evidence related to the shooting in the parking lot where the shots were heard.

Several persons from the shooting scene and the occupants of the Suburban were taken to the Police Department to be interviewed. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

The victim’s identity is not being released until family members can be notified. Anyone with information should contact Knoxville police.
