Update: Police say man made up "road rage" on I-40 story

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- KPD now says a man claiming he was a road rage victim on I-40 made the story up.

Investigators tell us it is unclear why the man made the claim. They tell us both the evidence and the fact that the alleged victim's story changed several times-- lead them to no longer believe the claim.

KPD does say that the car was shot at some point, but not on the interstate.

Charges are pending, as the investigation continues.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)- A road rage incident leads to a window being shot out on I-40.

KPD says it happened around 5:30 this morning, when the driver of a Maroon Crown Victoria pulled along side the driver of another car and opened fire. The shooting happened on I-40 heading east, near the Henley Street exit.

The driver of the victim's car was not injured, but the bullet shattered a window and became lodged in the car's speedometer.

Police say it started when the suspect's car began following the victim's car too closely. The victim then let the suspect's car pass, but the two vehicles continued to jockey for position, up until the shooting.

The victim was able to pull off at the Henley Street exit, while the suspect drove off.
