Powerball fever in East Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Powerball fever is high across East Tennessee.

"The day is coming where somebody is going to win, and I may be the one!" said Thomas Carey, Jr., who bought multiple tickets.

Everyone has big plans for the jackpot:

"Pay off all my bills, I'd like to have my dad's house refurbished and have it redone for him. Just take care of my children and my grandchildren," said Karen Wooten.

"Probably go buy a car as soon as I got the money!" said Rob Youngblood.

"Definitely Disneyworld!" Trevorr Myles said.

Some let the computer pick their numbers, but others carefully selected them.

"Birthdays, ages - all the good fun stuff. My grandkids, my kids," said Wooten.

Stores stayed busy selling tickets Saturday, and some bought a lot more than just one.

"I had a couple customers purchase hundreds. $200 and $120 two days in a row actually," said Jakie Chao, with the Sunrise Supermarket.

And although you're more likely to get struck by lightening or attacked by a shark, the dream of winning is still strong.

"It would be nice if I won something out of it, if not all of it!" said Rob Youngblood, who bought multiple tickets.

The lucky numbers will be picked at 10:59 p.m.

Powerball is played in 43 states, plus the District of Columbia and the US Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in over 175 million.
