Prayer meeting to oppose liquor-by-the-drink

ERWIN, Tenn. (AP) -- Unicoi County residents opposed to allowing liquor-by-the-drink sales are organizing a public prayer meeting.

One of the prayer meeting organizers, Edd Bolton, told the Johnson City Press he does not think allowing liquor-by-the-drink will bring in big restaurants, as supporters claim. He said there are not enough people with good incomes to attract the restaurants.

Bolton's the group has sent mailings to more than 60 pastors in Unicoi County.

The event will include speakers discussing topics that include alcohol's effects on young people and health issues related to alcohol use.
