500 jobs will be added initially, but the company says as it expands, more than 1,000 people could work here.

Maryville,Tenn (WVLT)-- You probably know, or knew someone with cancer. Maybe you're the one fighting the disease. Beating it may be easier with a new proton treatment manufacturing facility coming to Blount County.

Terry Dean Douglass, CEO of ProNova Solutions, LLC says proton therapy is a smaller, and less expensive cancer treatment, "protons and proton therapy can has a distinct advantage that it can target the radiation to almost exclusively in the tumor."

So it doesn't damage healthy tissue, as opposed to traditional radiation therapy.

Based at the Pellissippi Place Research and Development Park, ProNova will be the first company to build inside the park, a 52 million dollar investment.

Ed Mitchell, Blount County Mayor says this is an ideal addition to the county, "you could not have asked for a company to come in here and provide better jobs a better way of life."

500 jobs will be added initially, but the company says as it expands, more than 1,000 people could work here.

"Proton therapy, is the cutting edge," says Mayor Mitchell, "they are striving every day to take that technology and make it better, to maybe one day, it will be the total cure for cancer."

ProNova will distribute and build the latest proton therapy equipment and supply treatment facilities all over the world, including its Provision Center for Proton Therapy.

The initial construction will include two buildings: one for manufacturing, the other for offices.

300 million dollars is expected in revenue. The company says it should meet that goal in the second or third year of operation.
