KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- East Tennessee adventurers will soon have a new place to go to get their gear. On Wednesday, REI announced it will open a new location in Knoxville.
According to the REI, their new 23,500 sq. foot store in Papermill Plaza, in the old Knoxville Furniture location, will feature top brands for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling and travel.
It will also have a bike shop as well as space for classes, presentations, and clips.
“As an outdoor retailer, REI is committed to inspiring and educating people to lead active lifestyles,” said Gail Kirkland, REI retail director for the South district.
“Our expertise, programming and products will enhance anyone’s trips to explore outdoor places, like Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”
The company says it is the fifth largest consumer cooperative in the country. Members pay a one-time $20 fee and in return they'll get a share of the annual profits.
They expect to hire around 50 employees when it opens in Fall of 2014. Candidates can apply at http://www.rei.com/jobs
