KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- People began lining up Friday night to get free help from the Remote Area Medical.

Hundreds had hopes of meeting with doctor at the Jacob Building in Chillhowee Park.

Doctors, dentists and optometrists gave free exams, cleanings, and vision tests.

The clinic offers resources the less fortunate normally cannot afford.

"It's very important. As an outsider looking in, I think this makes a huge difference on their quality of life," said volunteer Matt Scraig.

More than 800 people were treated by doctors who volunteered their time.

East Tennessee's next RAM clinic is scheduled for June 21-22 in Scott County.
