KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Donnie Tyndall has been named Tennessee's next men's basketball coach.
Tyndall spent the last two years at Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles were 29-7 this year and 27-10 the year before.
Prior to his stint in Hattiesburg, Tyndall was the head coach at Morehead State for six years. His overall record at Morehead was 114-84, coaching the Eagles to two NCAA tournament births.
Tennessee has been without a head coach since last Tuesday, when Cuonzo Martin unexpectedly accepted the head job at Cal.
Multiple outlets reported that the Vols first targeted Louisiana Tech's Michael White. It's believed that contract issues kept White from accepting the position and that's when UT's search turned toward Tyndall.
