UPDATE: Swimmer who drowned in Douglas Lake identified

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Sevier Co. Sheriff's Office identified the 20 year-old man who drowned in Douglas Lake on Wednesday. Witnesses said Elijah James Dixon was swimming with friends when he tried to swim across a cove off Dyke Road.

Dixon apparently became exhausted and was unable to make it to the other side. His friends tried to save him, but were unable to.

Dive teams were called to the cove shortly before 2:00 p.m. About 2 1/2 hours later a rescue diver found his body in approximately 48' of water in the area where his friends said he went under.
